Abbas Effendi also known as ‘Abdu’l-Bahá was born in 1844 in Persia and arrived in ‘Akko in 1868 as a prisoner and an exile alongside His Father, Bahá’u’lláh (Prophet – Founder of the Bahá’í Faith).

Abbas Effendi lived in ‘Akko for more than 40 years and dedicated Himself to serving the people of the city, especially the poor. He established good relations between the Bahá’ís and the diverse peoples, communities and official institutions throughout the region.

Abbas Effendi said, “do not be content with showing friendship in words alone, let your heart burn with loving kindness for all who may cross your path,” and “love ye all religions and all races with a love that is true and sincere and show that love through deeds...”.

This year, 2021, marks 100 years since the passing of Abbas Effendi.

In honor of this historic year, the House of ‘Abdu’lláh Páshá that was the home of Abbas Effendi from 1896-1910 will be open to the public for the very first time through reservation.

Visitors will be welcomed to enjoy the following offerings:

  • Panel Exhibit featuring the construction of the new Shrine of Abbas Effendi in ‘Akko

  • A 6-minute film on the life of Abbas Effendi.

  • Information on the history and importance of this building.
